Travis Leland Springer, 43, of Crescent City, was arrested Feb. 12, accused of a string of sex charges against a minor.
Springer was arrested for allegedly having unlawful intercourse with a minor, aggravated sexual assault of a minor, aggravated sexual assault of a minor with a foreign object, lewd or lascivious crimes against children, oral copulation, continuous sexual abuse of a child, annoying or molesting a child and oral copulation with a minor age 14 or 15.
He will now face a single charge in court. Del Norte County District Attorney Katherine Micks said the new charge of continuous sexual abuse essentially encompasses all the complaints filed in the case.
“In this case, the decision was made based on the facts and circumstances,” Micks said, “so it was decided that it would be more appropriate.”
Del Norte County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Steven said there aren’t a lot of details to the arrest.
“Detectives learned of a victim that had been identified, and conducted interviews,” he said. “They were able to get a search warrant and they arrested him.”
Micks said Springer had been to court and a preliminary hearing has been set for March 18.
Springer’s bail was also reduced from $1 million to $250,000.
