Edward Hughes IV remains in Del Norte County Jail under $1 million bail.

Hughes was arrested last Monday after a three-hour standoff with law enforcement and charged with the murder of his wife, Emiley Tesch Hughes, who had not been seen since December. Her body was found Feb. 14 inside her Crescent City home by a relative.

According to sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Steven, detectives obtained a warrant for Edward’s arrest after an autopsy on Emily was conducted.

District Attorney Katherine Micks said Thursday that Hughes had appeared in Del Norte County Superior Court and entered a plea of not guilty.

He will return to court March 11 for a setting hearing.

Sheriff’s detectives are continuing to investigate, and no other charges have been filed.
