Multiple agencies, including those from surrounding counties, are expected to take part in a procession honoring long-time fire chief Steve Wakefield on Saturday.
The procession will take place following funeral services for Wakefield, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, and will follow along Washington Boulevard to Pebble Beach Drive, said Del Norte Sheriff's Cmdr. Bill Steven, who is also a volunteer with Crescent City Fire and Rescue.
The procession will then turn on 5th Street, head down to H Street to wind up at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery for a graveside service, according to Steven.
Wakefield's colleagues, emergency responders, friends and family will then take part in a reception-fellowship at the Crescent City Fire Hall at I and 5th streets, Steven said.
Wakefield, 64, died April 26 following a third stroke. He joined the Crescent City Volunteer Fire Department in 1976 where he served as a firefighter, captain, battalion chief, assistant chief and fire chief.
Wakefield was a major influence in combining Crescent City Volunteer Fire Department and the Crescent Fire Protection District in 2015, serving as its chief until he suffered a stroke in January 2018.
Wakefield was also a local business owner, opening Wakefield's Restaurant in 1982 and Northwoods Restaurant in 1989.
