Trustees will be asked Thursday to approve allocating $2.3 million in bond funding for a series of projects encompassing Del Norte Unified School District.
The projects include purchasing new backup generators at Del Norte High School and Margaret Keating Elementary School. Also, replacing fire alarms at six schools, including Sunset High School, shower valve and head replacement in the Del Norte High boys and girls locker room, gym floor replacement at Mountain School in Gasquet and eight modernization projects that need to be performed and finished over the next five years.
Voters approved the $25 million school facilities bond in 2008. According to an annual report to the community for the period ending June 30, 2017, Dohn Henion, chairman of the district's Citizens Oversight Committee, stated that $20.5 million in bonds had been issued as of 2017.
Measure A still authorizes the sale of an additional series of bonds totaling roughly $4.4 million, Henion wrote in the June 30, 2017 report.
Also on the agenda of Thursday's school board meeting is acceptance of bids for replacing the fire alarm system at Smith River School and renovating the exterior at Joe Hamilton Elementary School.
The Del Norte Unified School District Board of Trustees meets at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Education Center Building Board Room, 301 W. Washington Blvd., in Crescent City. Agendas are available at www.delnorte.k12.ca.us.
