A candidate for lieutenant governor will pay Del Norte County a visit as she tours the North Coast.

Eleni Kounalakis will speak at the Del Norte County Democratic Central Committee on Monday. She is currently in the middle of a road tour throughout California.

Kounalakis is the leader of the International Trade and Investment Council and is the most recent appointee to the San Francisco Port Commission, according to the biography on her website.

She has served as U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, working under President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Kounalakis was also a key policy advisor during Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

The daughter of an immigrant father from Greece and a mother who was an elementary school teacher, Kounalakis earned an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth and an MBA in business from the University of California, Berkeley. She has also served on California’s First 5 commission, the California Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism and has been a five-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
