Sutter Health has donated $25,000 to the Southwest Oregon Chapter of the American Red Cross support disaster relief efforts for those impacted by the Chetco Bar Fire near Brookings.

The donation helps bolster Red Cross efforts to provide food, shelter and other needed supplies to those having to evacuate as a result of the fire, according to a Sutter Health news release.

“We are concerned for those in our community and part of being a great neighbor is looking beyond the walls of our care center, out into the community and supporting our neighbors in times of need, Sutter Coast Hospital CEO Mitch Hanna said in a written statement. “We hope this donation will bring security, shelter, comfort and relief to those in need.”

Sutter Coast Hospital employees are also collecting food donations for the Brookings Harbor Community Helpers Food Bank, according the news release.

According to Carisa Hettich, executive director for the Red Cross Southwest Oregon Chapter, more than 40 staff and volunteers from multiple states, including California, have been involved in relief efforts due to the Chetco Fire.

Sutter Health has been a long-time partner with the American Red Cross, donating $250,000 to support disaster relief across Texas.
