Del Norte’s preliminary unemployment rate fell slightly from June to July, according to numbers released from the state Employment Development Department on Friday.

County unemployment fell from the revised June rate of 5.6 percent to 5.5 percent last month, according to a press release from the Employment Development Department. The year-over rate is down 0.8 percentage points from the July 2017 rate of 6.3 percent. According to the department, Del Norte rose in rank from 40th to 39th among the 58 counties statewide.

Out of the surrounding counties, Siskiyou’s unemployment rate was slightly higher at 5.7 percent, according to the department. Humboldt’s unemployment rate is 3.9 percent, Shasta’s is 4.9 percent and Trinity’s unemployment is 4.7 percent. Out of California’s 58 counties, Imperial had the highest unemployment rate at 19.3 percent while San Mateo had the lowest at 2.3 percent.

Statewide California’s unemployment is at 4.4 percent, while the United States unemployment rate is 4.1 percent, according to the department.
