A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Steve Myers.
Myers’ sister, Nancy Steele, said the family is not disclosing who is offering the reward.
Myers’ body was found by a jogger on a beach in Smith River on Jan 29. Del Norte County Sheriff’s officials announced nine days later the case was being investigated as a homicide.
Sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Steven said the cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to the head.
Steele previously said many in Smith River have speculated about the case or made assertions as to suspicions. Asked Thursday if the reward has spurred any new information, Steele said “nothing concrete.” Asked if she had been in communication with sheriff’s investigators, she said she has not been.
“The only contact I’ve had was when I dropped the flyer off,” she said. “We just want the people involved in this to be convicted and we want to keep our community safe.”
Posters being circulated around the area urge those with information to call 707-954-4469 or the sheriff’s office at 707-464-4191.
