Born to be proud parents of Durward and Frieda Ridgway in Jan. 1945, John was the youngest of four siblings and raised in Del Norte County.

In his youth John was showing signs of being a natural tinkerer and Jack-of-all trades, whether it was picking chittum bark, filling a paper route, constructing soap box cars or building go carts.

During his teenage years John loved to build and race motorcycles. His love for the sport took him to many races with countless wins. Before hanging up his boots to start a family, John had been solicited twice by major motorcycle companies to race on the Euripean Flat Track Circuit.

Marrying the love of his life, Shirley Olivia Carpenter in 1965, they together raised their children, Jason, Lori and Jeremy. He was a completely supportive father and grandfather who shared his time and talents, always with love and laughter.

A truck driver who hauled many things many places, John drove trucks for over 40 years, hauling for Snoozie Shavings, Dutra Trucking, Hambro and Parkway Feed to name a few.

At one time being an athlete himself, he always remained a sports fan who love following the Giants, the Golden State Warriors and attending the local high school boys and girls athletics.

John’s main hobby was working on his classic car. The last 10 years of his spare time was dedicated to building, welding, electrical schematics and finding parts. He loved the challenge of THE PYLMOUTH.

Anyone that came into contact with John would depart with a round of laughter at a joke or story that had been told. John will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Survived by his sister, Betty Malloroy and numerous relatives.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Look for the time and date in at the Del Norte Triplicate.
