Beverley “Bev” Ruth (Bailey) Holloway passed away Jan. 22, 2019, at OHSU hospital in Portland, Oregon, of complications following injuries to her neck sustained in a fall. She was 91 years old.

Bev was the third child born to Leslie Eugene and Ruth Orrinda (Fahrney) Bailey. She was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Delta, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Bonita Gertrude Bailey and Leslie Louise (Bailey) Rushing; and her husband, Ernest Holloway.

Following the sale of the family farm in Colorado during the Depression years, the Bailey family moved west to Oregon where Bev completed high school in Klamath Falls. They then relocated to Crescent City where Bev took an additional year of high school. It was there she met her future husband, Ernest Holloway. They were married at the Crescent City Federated Community Methodist Church in December 1947 and were together for 70 years until Ernie’s death last April.

The center of Bev and Ernie’s life, aside from their four children, was their involvement in church. As a long-time member of the Crescent City United Methodist Church, Bev
served in many leadership capacities including lay leader, lay speaker, choir member and United Methodist Women. In the 1990s, Bev and Ernie undertook training to become certified lay ministers and served the United Methodist Church in Maxwell for three years.

Bev enjoyed music, reading, handcrafts and watching the Warriors, the Giants and 49ers games with Ernie. She had a passion for writing and spent years compiling the stories her father told of his childhood and life on the farm. She had many articles published in faith-based magazines.

Bev is survived by her four children: Orrinda (Richard) Stockton, Roy (Pam) Holloway, Rev. Robin (Rev. Ivan MacKillop, OCC) Holloway, OCC; and Rev. Michele (Robert Brissenden) Holloway; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and additional grands and great-grands from blended families.

Memorial gifts may be made in Bev’s name to the Holloway Lay Speaker Educational Fund at the Crescent City UMC, 664 H St., Crescent City, CA 95531.
