I wish to take this opportunity to strongly support Chris Howard’s re-election to the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors.

I worked closely with Chris on the Crescent City / Del Norte Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 2006 through 2010. During that time Chris wore many hats, including chamber president and director, all of which he did for free, while working full time for Green Diamond Resource Company.

This period of time proved to be a significant turning point in the history of the chamber and our community. This was when the goal of securing the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) to re-invest in tourism marketing was achieved (a goal of the chamber since 1964). Since its inception, both city and county TOT revenues have nearly doubled, proving the worth of this project.

Also during this era, Chris led the effort to bring the city, county, Elk Valley Rancheria, Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation and other private business together, funding a $260,000 budget that led to the creation of the Visitors’ Bureau in 2007.

I am supporting Chris Howard for District 3 supervisor in the upcoming election because he has a strong work ethic and understands the importance of partnerships and our community’s economic development potential.

Thank you for your commitment, Chris, to help make our community a better place.
