For the first time in several years the Del Norte Little League will be hosting an opening ceremony on Saturday at Pyke’s Field before the first official games of the season. As part of the ceremony, there will be a memorial for former Del Norte Little League and DNHS baseball player Zach Heglemeyer, who died in a surfing accident in February.

Del Norte Little League Board Member Chris Rice said they are hoping to get as many of the 425 kids signed up for the season this year in uniform at Pyke’s Field starting at 9:30 a.m., a half hour before the official start of the ceremony at 10 a.m.

Little League games will kick off at noon with major baseball playing three games, and major softball playing two games.

Rice said Del Norte Little League is still looking for volunteers for the upcoming season, which will compete at Pykes Field every day from Monday to Friday. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to visit, or email Rice at .
