The entire Del Norte boys golf team was at the Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland on Monday, competing as an at large selection at the North Coast Section Division II Championships.
Although the top five golfers are scored at Humboldt-Del Norte League meets, only the top four golfers were scored at the Division II meet and the Warriors ended up in fifth place overall out of 11 teams, narrowly missing the cut to move on to the NCS Division I Meet of Champions.
Del Norte finished with a team score of 325, beating HDN Champion Eureka by 18 strokes. The Warriors were seven strokes behind St. Vincent de Paul, which took the third and final Meet of Champions qualifying team spot.
Taylor Westbrook shot the lowest round of the day for Del Norte with a 77. Cameron Schultz was close behind Westbrook with a round of 78. Both seniors just missed reaching the top 12 to move on to the Division I meet, with the 12th place finisher shooting a 75.
Senior Ben Slayton shot a round of 84 in Oakland, followed closely by junior Brennan Thornton’s roud of 86.
Anthony Slayton did not end up golfing in the meet.
Athenian’s Ryan Grauman shot the lowest individual roud of the day with a 66 to win the meet by two strokes. Branson shot the lowest round overall with a team score of 296.
