Although Friends and Family is a new team name this year, most of the same players repeated as the mens upper division champions for about the fourth season in a row this season. Friends and Family — formerly D&O — completed their undefeated season on Wednesday with a 28-12 victory over Flying Boys in the Del Norte Recreation Department’s slowpitch softball championship game at Pyke Field.
Friends and Family took control of the game early, jumping out to a 13-0 lead after two innings, and were never seriously threatened in their last game of the slowpitch season.
Friends & Family was untouchable throughout the regular season, going undefeated through the men’s upper division regular season with an 11-0 record.
Dee Ni’ Nation Rez Boys finished in second place in the upper division regular season with a 7-4 overall record, just one game ahead of Flying Boys (6-5).
The Del Norte Recreation Department’s men’s lower division is scheduled to play its championship game next Wednesday. Rev’em Up and Green Machine finished the regular season tied at the top of the lower division standings with identical 7-4 records.
The coed league just wrapped up its regular season on Tuesday with two teams tied at the top of the regular season standings. Both Wild River and Banana Hammocks will start the tournaments with 9-1 regular season records.
A total of 20 team have competed in the recreation departments annual slowpitch softball leagues at Pyke Field this year.
