Smith River Elementary’s basketball coach Ron Quick has been nominated for a most valuable coach award, and U.S. Cellular, which gives out the award, announced the longtime Wildcat is among the top 50 nominees for the honor.
Online voting is now open at themostvalublecoach.com for anyone wishing to support the Smith River teacher and coach.
The 15 coaches with the most votes on Oct. 11 will be announced as finalists, earning a $5,000 donation to their school. From the 15 finalists, a panel of judges, including WNBA All-Star Maya Moore and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb will decide the winner.
“The winning coaches will be based on the positive impact they have on their players, school and city, as well as their leadership qualities,” said a press release from U.S. Cellular.
All coaches being considered for the award must coach a current K-12 school-affiliated team from an eligible state, within a zip code in which U.S. Cellular offers service.
