Mike Horner said he had no idea he was about to be named Warriors Superfan, but when you consider his dedication to Del Norte High School Sports, it should be no surprise.

Rene’ Shanle-Hutzell said before the game, only a few people knew the identity of the Superfan. Weeks before the game, people were asked to nominate fans who go above and beyond to support the Warriors, she said.

“Some continue to support high school sports long after their kids, and probably even their grandkids, graduate and leave the school,” she said.

“Mike has been at every single game,” she said.

Mike said he moved to Crescent City in 1981 and has been coming to games ever since. His granddaughter is on the high school basketball team, but his involvement doesn’t end there.

“I’ve come to games for years, even when my grandkids aren’t playing. I go to all of them,” he said. “I do the clocks for football, I’m a bus driver and I drive the teams, and I go to wrestling or anything. I love high school sports.”

In fact, it was obvious by the end of the short interview he was itching to get back to the game after hearing the buzzer from the court.
