More than a hundred youngsters from Crescent City, Brookings and Gold Beach took to Elmer Bankus Field at Brookings-Harbor High School over the past several days to participate in National Football League’s (NFL) sanctioned flag football scrimmages.

The Redwood Coast Rodeo had a brand new look this year as the Coastal Farm and Ranch Challenge of Champions Tour, based out of Oregon, made its debut at the Del Norte County Fair on Saturday.

It has been a good week for sport fishermen on both sides of the California-Oregon border as the tuna have moved in about as close to shore as they ever come, lots of California halibut have been biting on the beaches, and bottomfish has remained consistent as usual.

The Crescent City Triathlon will be back for its 35th year this summer, scheduled to take place on Aug. 18 in Beachfront Park and along Crescent City’s coast on Pebble Beach Drive.


The Del Norte football team’s offseason is winding down as they prepare to put on the pads for the official start of practice on Monday. About 50 to 60 players were on hand for the Warriors’ fall football camp Wednesday through Friday which were the last voluntary workouts of the summer.

The NorCal Swat 8 and Under softball team took a trip to Santa Rosa over the weekend for their first ever Amateur Softball Association tournament. The Swat ended up playing four closely contested games on their way to  a 1-3 record overall.
