Some 240 Bicycle Rides Northwest cyclists bid good-by to Crescent City after spending two nights at Beachfront Park. The remaining 60 riders elected to hop on THE BRNW shuttle bus through the Collier Tunnel.
The bike tour was a first for the group and considered a huge success.
Bicycles Rides began the journey in Winston, Oregon July 8, biked west to Bandon and south on 101, arriving Tuesday afternoon, July 11 in Crescent City. Wednesday, cyclists were observed all around the city. Many rode up Howland Hill to Stout Grove and Stephen Bridge, Wednesday afternoon.
The event was a big economic driver with riders and crew spending significant dollars in the community.
Executive Director of BRNW Jim Moore heaped praise on the many partners who made this first ever event a success. Recognition and appreciation goes to the City, the CCPD, the Del Norte Sheriff’s Department, the Chamber of Commerce, the Del Norte Transportation Commission, National and State Parks, Cal-Trans and the California Highway Patrol which escorted the riders north on the 199 through Hiouchi, Thursday early morning.
The group is enroute to Lake Selmac and finishes its tour in Winston, July 15. BRNW Executive Director Moore acknowledged all the above in working together to make this event successful. Moore bid Crescent City farewell. “ We’ll be back.”
