College of the Redwoods, with a campus in Crescent City, recently announced it is developing three new programs for students in social justice, environmental science, and social work and human services.
Officials said the social justice associate of science degree will prepare students for transfer into ethnic studies, gender studies, social justice studies and related majors in the California State University system.
The environmental science program is linked to the natural resources industry located in Humboldt County, said officials, and will add to existing transfer degrees in biology, geology, mathematics and physics.
The social work and human services associate of science degree is being “developed due to a need for a clear pathway to Humboldt State University for those students who are interested in becoming social workers,” said College of the Redwoods professor Philip Mancus.
College officials said they expect the three new programs to be available to students by next fall.
