Earlier this week, PBAO revealed a new motto for their fund raising non-profit organization: Local Strong.

Today, PBAO announces the latest Pelican Bay Food Sales fund raiser resulted in a record $27,000.

The board selected two different nonprofits to receive funds: $15,000 in high school scholarships, split between Brookings Harbor High School and Del Norte High School, and $12,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the Bicoastal Media Radio-Thon.

According to Vice President Mitch Jones, the board selected St. Jude because it is the ‘Hospital without Walls,’ which benefits our local youth. Many local cancer patients have been treated by protocol provided (for free) by St. Jude. Also, because of Covid-19, the annual Country Against Cancer event for St. Jude was cancelled, which has been the biggest local fundraiser for St Jude Kids. Add to that, all major country concerts were cancelled last year - so, there were no celebrity autographed guitars to auction off.

From Mitch Jones, “It’s our great pleasure to support St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The $12,000 will play a small but important role in St Jude’s mission. Finding Cures. Saving Children.”

PBAO is interested in adding new members to the organization. Pelican Bay staff and community members not associated with the prison are welcome. Please reach out via the PBAO Facebook Page or contact President Jim Holt.
