Photos: Yurok Tribe’s 56th-annual Salmon Festival

The population of Klamath exploded Aug. 18 with visitors to the Yurok Tribe’s 56th-annual “Salmon Festival.”

Participants, covered in colorful dust, finished the Ney’ Puey 5K Color Run moments ahead of a parade featuring a procession of tribal elders on floats, and miniature hydro boats on trailers.

But the main attraction, which drew the longest line, was the traditional salmon bake. In between bites, festivalgoers wandered through nearly 100 vendor booths featuring handcrafted tribal souvenirs and keepsakes.

And plenty of heads were turned by Yurok elder George Smoker and wife Marla’s 10th-annual classic car display. Simply put, fun for everyone.
