Levi Jesse Cochran was arrested for shooting an explosive firework above Del Norte High School’s football field during the final home game Nov. 1.

An aerial explosive firework was launched just east of Del Norte High School’s football field during the final home game Nov. 1, said local officials, traveling over the field and exploding directly above several players.

Law enforcement officials said some of the players received minor burns.

The officials said a suspect, Levi Jesse Cochran, was promptly apprehended by several parents and attendees at the football game.

Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin said Officer Yen Lo was attending the game as part of his school resource officer duties and requested help from other units in the area. Griffin said police worked along with Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office deputies to arrest Cochran.

He was being held in the Del Norte County Jail as of Nov 4, Griffin said, with the investigation ongoing.
