Bicoastal Media has entered into an agreement to purchase Brookings radio station KURY AM and FM from Eureka Broadcasting Co. Inc.

The stations have been operated by the Papstein family since 2004.

“After 15 years of operating KURY AM and KURY FM, it’s time for another to have the chance to serve the Brookings and Harbor communities,” Brian Papstein, president of Eureka Broadcasting Co., said. “We made many friends during our years and truly appreciate the opportunity you all gave us. Angie and I wish only the best for the communities we have come to know and will fondly reflect on our time owning and operating KURY Radio.”

Bicoastal also operates KCRE and KPOD AM and FM in Crescent City. The combined group will be managed by Bicoastal Media market manager Larry Timpe.

“No changes are anticipated to station programming,” Timpe said. “Fans will still see the same familiar faces in the community. Sharon Toney continues to ‘Stuff the Bus’ in the station’s school supply drive, and KURY stations will still offer the ability to buy coupons to area businesses.”

A veteran broadcaster, Timpe said, “I’m very excited about KURY Radio being a part of the Bicoastal Media family. KURY Radio fits our philosophy of being the ‘local’ radio station: Broadcasting high school sports, supporting local groups and providing listeners with local information.

“We pride ourselves in being involved in the places where we live and work, and by being the go-to source for information when the community needs it most.”

The local radio stations’ combined group reportedly now employs about 13 full-time employees.

The stations will be operated under a local marketing agreement while the transaction is pending FCC approval.
