Crescent City is becoming quite adept at seeking out and applying for all kinds of various grants opportunities. Among those applications, councilors approved grants applications seeking out Request for Proposals (RFP) for Front Street improvements from G Street to I Street, with an addition for I Street to Play Street and a police department request from the Alcohol and Beverage Control Policing Partnership Program.
The G to I Street improvements request was presented by public works. This project is a standalone plan. A separate request was inserted for improvement for I Street to Play Street. The final leg of the grant from Play to the 101 was not addressed at the Tuesday meeting.
Front Street improvements include storm drain, new water lines, streetlights, sidewalk, ADA ramps and driveway replacements along Front Street with infrastructure connections at four intersections.
The total project slightly exceeds $3 million with identical Measure S and matching ARPA grant funding, Del Norte Local Transportation funding and a Community Project grant via Congressman Jared Huffman.
Councilors also approved the application for the ABC grant for several inebriation calibration machines and an educational component not to exceed $30,000, a grant previously sought but declined to the city. A change in grant criteria prompted the request for a new application.
City Manager Eric Wier reported to the council, the city has applied for and awaits decisions on an estimated $13 million on outstanding grants application.
