With only three members of the city council present, councilors approved a resolution Tuesday evening authorizing the submission to the Clean California Act program.
The $3 million grant application will benefit the Crescent City Cultural Gateway. Voting unanimously to meet quorum minimum requirements were Councilor Ray Altman, Mayor Pro Tem Blake Inscore and Mayor Isaiah Wright.
The sought-after funds will address the already approved $8 million, in two grants, addressing the bike pump project, Kid Town expansion, trail loop around Beachfront park, the Tolowa Interpretive walk, the Amphitheatre and Water Front Plaza. The beautification project will include the following components:
• Elk Creek Cleanup, running along Beachfront Park and RV park, west of Highway 101.
• Gateway Monuments, Landscape and Public Art. This component will include two gateway monuments on L and M streets and help establish a sense of arrival and guide visitors down Front St to Beachfront Park.
• Create entrance to the new Del Norte Discovery Center. Existing staircase will be removed and will be Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.
• Tollowa Interpretative Walk, Tollowa basket-patterned concrete pads entering the interpretive walk.
• Transit Center Relocation. Located across the street, parking will be added for easier access to Point of Honor. Parking will also accommodate Redwood Coast Transit buses.
No matching funds are required for this project. The deadline to apply for Clean California funding is April 28.
