August 23, 2024 – Crescent City, CA – The Crescent City Harbor District (CCHD) is pleased to share the draft of its Strategic Development Plan for public comment.
The Plan is an initiative designed to promote growth and sustainability within the harbor. Its primary goals are to identify the potential areas and types of development that will be encouraged within the harbor.
“Our focus is to ensure the harbor remains a vital contributor to the Del Norte County economy, while preserving its rich heritage,” said Harbormaster and CEO Tim Petrick. “We are committed to maintaining commercial fishing and recreational boating, both of which are critical to the harbor’s identity, while also expanding visitor-serving uses that will attract tourism and business.”
The Crescent City Harbor District is working closely with Community System Solutions on this plan, which includes a comprehensive review of the Crescent City Harbor Coastal Land Use Plan; the Municipal Service Review & Sphere of Influence Update; the AB 691 Sea-Level Rise Assessment; and the CCHD 10-Year Strategic Plan (2018-2028).
The Strategic Development Plan emphasizes both protecting Crescent City’s commercial fishing industry and recognizing that additional development is crucial for the harbor’s financial future. The district will use the final version of the plan to actively seek opportunities for harbor-related development through partnerships with private businesses, third-party investments, and government grant programs.
The proposed development ideas in the plan have been identified by Harbormaster Petrick, board members, past public comments and previously adopted harbor plans. The plan includes a master map of the harbor and area-specific maps that showcase the proposed developments.
The Crescent City Harbor District will be discussing the plan at upcoming board meetings, which community members are encouraged to attend.
