A 26 year-old man was arrested for possession of child pornography Monday, according to police.
The investigation began late last month after the Crescent City Police Department received an alert from the federal task force, Internet Crimes Against Children, that a suspected image of child pornography had been viewed by an IP address registered to a physical address in Crescent City, according to a Monday press release from CCPD.
Officer Alex Pearson was able to obtain and execute a search warrant for the suspect's—Jesus Portillo—residence and place of work, Digital Needs Services, both of which are located in Crescent City. According to police, the investigation showed the IP address used to view and possibly download the child pornography was used in both locations .
Hard drives and other forms of digital media storage were seized at both locations by police, however, Portillo was not located by CCPD officers because he was on vacation on the East Coast.
However, Portillo was arrested and booked in Del Norte County Jail Monday, after Crescent City IT staff found additional child pornography on the digital media storage seized from police searches.
