16 incoming Seniors experienced the trip of a lifetime, traveling to Washington DC an New York, in June.
Del Norte High School Government and Economics Teacher Andrew Fitch and his wife Sommer chaperoned the group conducted by EF Tours.
June 16, the Group flew out of Medford en route to our Nation’s capital. The tour covered five days in DC and the Big Apple. For many of the students, the plane trip and visit to the East Coast was a first.
Students prepared for this excursion a year ahead of the event. Each traveler needed to raise at least $3000 for the adventure. Students received college credit for the trip. The DC Trip included the following:
• Tour of the Capitol Building. Students observed a Senate vote.
• Side trips to George Washington’s home at Mt. Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery. One student was able to locate and honor one of his relatives.
• Tours of the Smithsonian and Holocaust Memorial.
The Trip to New York included the following:
• Tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
• The Empire State Building.
• Watch a Broadway play.
The 16 DN Seniors who travelers included Ryleigh Bennet, Jace Bergman, Kaidance Cardenas, Zander Fitch, Brooklyn Carter, Evan Cerecetez, Alyssa Corpstein, Kayla Dunsmore, Emma Jackson, Helena Long, Andres Moreno, Peyton Morgante, Francis Sept, Sam Tonglet, Charleston Tygart and Avel Walker.
Next June, Fitch and Sommer plan on taking students to New England including Boston, Salem and Plymouth.
