The Del Norte Unified School District announced Budget Realignment and Staffing adjustments also known as an RIF, a reduction in workforce.
A decline of approximately 450 students resulting in a loss of $6.2 million in state funding, combined with rising operational costs has forced the District to take necessary measures to secure long-term financial stability while maintaining quality education for students.
The two driving factors for the RIF are:
• Declining enrollment and funding shortfalls. A 50 percent increase in electricity and rising fuel costs contributed to an unsustainable fiscal environment.
• Expiration of COVID-Era Supplemental funds. During the Pandemic the District received one-time funds that enabled instructional and support staff and librarians to address learning loss and other urgent needs.
The RIF will impact both Classified and Certificated positions.
