Some 1800 additional ballots were collated and counted, adding to the gross of Thursday’s total vote for the 2024 Del Norte County General Election. With some 200 conditional and provisional ballots yet to be counted. Positions remain unchanged and unofficial until Elections Clerk Alissia Northrup certifies the vote and sends the results to the Secretary of State’s office in Sacramento.

Measures H and I went down in resounding defeat.

Proposition 36 increasing criminal penalties for felonies overwhelmingly passed in Del Norte and the State. The passage of this proposition usurps the old Prop 47.
Locally, Crescent City Councilors may take their Oaths and be seated as early as December 2.
The three new Harbor Commissioners may also take their Oaths and be seated during early December. Likewise for the City Council, no election was necessary, three vacancies, three candidates.
Primary winners last March on the Board of Supervisors, Darrin Short, Valerie Starkey and Dean Wilson along with new Superior Court Judge Karen Olson will take their Oaths in early January, 2025.
The voter turnout was a hefty 69 percent.
