A blink of the eye, and four decades have past. 1984 marked the year Mom Aurea and niece Linda took over the old deli on what is now the Mason Mall, downtown Crescent City.
Locals wanted Mexican food. Aurea started with crackpots and adjusted her delicious recipes to locals’ taste. Word of mouth was quick and very successful. Mom and Dad expanded the kitchen and before one can say “con much gusto,” Cristina’s Mexican Restaurant began. Soon Tia (Aunt) Juanita began to help in the kitchen.
Other family members joined. Adolfo was just five when Cristina’s started.
Some rough years and more good years followed…and Cristina’s persevered with very tasty (muy delicioso) dishes.
By 2012, Aurea said she tired and wanted to take a break. Then, she was the only one remaining in the kitchen.
Adolfo and Christina took over with new energy. Aurea returned to share her recipes.
Adolfo and Christina were committed to the a quality menu, warm atmosphere and attractive prices. The formula worked.
What will the younger families do? That’s the big question, yet to be answered.
Cristina’s will remain open through June 20 and welcomes you to stop by for lunch and early dinner.
