A majority of readers who responded to last week’s online poll published by the Curry Coastal Pilot and Del Norte Triplicate indicated they are in favor of another COVID-19 stimulus payment.

So-called stimulus payments of $1200 each, with additional money for some children, were made to most Americans following passage of the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) on March 27. Although the House of Representatives passed another relief bill including similar payments on May 15, the HEROES Act (Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solution Act) has not been taken up by the Senate, although there is still debate in Washington about possible additional payments to help stimulate the economy.

Asked “are you in favor of another Covid-19 stimulus payment?” In the online poll on the Curry Coastal Pilot and Del Norte Triplicate websites last year, the question resulted in a total of 604 responses with similar results.

On the Pilot website, 63% were in favor of another payment, while 67% of responders on the Triplicate website were in favor. Overall, 25% of responders were against another payment, while 9% indicated they don’t care.

Each week a new question is posed to readers. This week’s question, now available on both newspaper websites, is: “Many activity restrictions were put in place due to the COVID-19 virus. Are you comfortable with increased activity now being allowed?

The poll can be found by scrolling down on each newspaper’s website.
