Within the next few weeks, motorists traveling into California will be greeted by new portal monuments from 101 in Brookings and 199 from Grants Pass. Cal Trans Clean California presented possible drafts at the recent Board of Supervisors meeting.
Clean California is the funding component and emerged from the Aftermath of the Covid 19 virus. The State funded the $1.2 billion Clean California Act, designed to Remove litter, Create jobs and Beautify California
The monuments will feature the iconic dog-leg shape of the Golden State but will differ in characteristics surrounding the individual geography of both portals.
The 199 monument will feature the Redwoods, local fauna like Bears and the State Flower, the California Poppy.
The 101 monument embraces the magnificent ocean, seals or salmon may replace the iconic bear emphasizing the marine world. The two iconic lighthouses, Battery Point and Point St. George may also be incorporated in the 101 monument.
The monuments will be large, measuring 17 feet wide and 15 feet tall. The Triplicate will be assisting Clean California is seeking input from the public on both monuments. After the survey has been conducted and evaluated, construction will begin.
