Sheriff’s office warns businesses of phone scam
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office reports of a phone scam involving local businesses.
According to the sheriff’s office, local business are being contacted and asked for information specific to how much money they keep in their registers and current staffing levels.
The callers are claiming to be local law enforcement, including the Crescent City Police Department and Del Norte County Sheriff's Office.
According to the DNSO, local law enforcement personnel are not making these phone calls. The callers are imposters and likely have criminal intent.
The sheriff’s office recommends never giving out information over the phone that would compromise a business’s safety or the safety of others.
To confirm that you are in fact speaking with local law enforcement in the Del Norte County area, discontinue the phone call and contact dispatch at 707-464-4191, ext 0.
This matter is under investigation by the DNSO and the CCPD.
