In anticipation of a possible repeat of the devastating Smith River fires, involved and concerned partners and engaged public are preparing as best as humanly possible to prevent the damage Smith River Fires Complex 2.0 may cause.
A recent C130H Aircraft conducted a training mission over Crescent City three weeks ago. The Forest Service and community partners in Gasquet are conducting on-going meetings to help homeowners prepare for possible fire devastation, this season. As the Boy Scouts Motto says, “ Be Prepared.”
The Del Norte Fire Safe Council has acquired the monster industrial chipper which may very well be situated in your neighborhood in the coming weeks.
Thanks to a grant from the State Coastal Conservancy administered by the Smith River Alliance, the Rock Creek Community Wildfire Resilience Project is underway. The Fire Safe Council and it’s monster chipper will enhance the “defensible space” around vulnerable rural properties around Del Norte County.
