The Del Norte Triplicate office at 318 H St. in downtown Crescent City was burglarized over the weekend, with equipment missing that’s valued at nearly $19,000.

One of the newspaper’s employees noticed several missing computers and other items early Monday morning and called 911.

Acting Crescent City Chief of Police Edward Wilson said his department responded and dusted for fingerprints throughout the newsroom and administrative offices.

The Triplicate building did not have a security camera onsite, Wilson said, so investigators are checking with nearby businesses to see if their security systems recorded unusual activities.

Triplicate publisher Carol Hungerford said, “This is an unnecessary drama for our poor staff, having to walk in and discover that. Apparently, it’s part of a larger problem that Crescent City may be experiencing, so we’re not taking it personally.”

Hungerford is executive officer of Country Media Inc., which acquired The Triplicate and the Curry Coastal Pilot in Brookings less than three months ago.
