Update From Del Norte County Sheriff's Office. SUSPECT IN CUSTODY: 10/13/23 7:19 pm. The suspect was located and detained by Brookings PD and is in custody in Curry County, Oregon.

CRESCENT CITY – Local law enforcement officers located the Be on the Look Out (BOLO) vehicle at 2:17 p.m. on Oct. 13, but are still searching for the suspect wanted in connection with the death of Del Norte Sheriff’s Deputy Deanna Esmaeel.
According to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department Facebook, Esmaeel was found dead in her home on North Bank Road Thursday (10-12) morning.
The suspect is the boyfriend of Esmaeel, Daniel James Walter, AKA Edward Patrick Davies.
“We are all deeply heartbroken with the loss of Deputy Esmaeel,” Sheriff Garrett Scott said on the Facebook post. “Our hearts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and co-workers.”
A warrant was signed by Judge Darren McElfresh for the arrest of Daniel James Walter, AKA Edward Patrick Davies.
Law enforcement is actively looking for Walter. There is no more information at this time, as this is an ongoing homicide investigation, the Sheriff’s Department stated.
