On July 9 the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office reported that an arrest was made in Brookings, Oregon, of a suspect in a June 30 shooting incident in Smith River.

According to the DNSO Facebook post, in the early morning hours of June 30 deputies responded to the 14000 block of U.S. Highway 101 North in Smith River for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival deputies made contact with the reporting party and victims. Statements were obtained and it was determined a subject known to the victim brought an unidentified male subject to the residence. The unidentified individual produced a handgun and reportedly threatened subjects at the residence. He reportedly shot the firearm numerous times inside and outside of the residence.

There were no gunshot wounds sustained by any of the parties involved.

The two subjects fled northbound prior to law enforcement arrival.

A “Be On the Lookout” message was broadcast and a Brookings, Oregon, police officer located the suspect vehicle unattended in that city. The officer observed a firearm in the rear passenger area of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was secured and towed at the request of the DNSO.

Deputies who responded to the initial call recovered multiple items of evidence. There were no gunshot wounds sustained by any of the parties involved.

Subsequently, DNSO deputies identified the driver of the vehicle and conducted an interview. Upon a search of the vehicle deputies located a firearm as described by the victim and witnesses as well as a high capacity magazine. These items were seized as evidence.

The DNSO said Timothy Strom was identified as the subject who had fired the firearm. A warrant was written and Strom was taken into custody without incident.

Strom’s city of residence was not released.

As of July 12, he remained in the Curry County Jail awaiting extradition to California.
