Barbara Anne Neighbors Deal

Barbara Anne Neighbors Deal was born October 25, 1948 in San Pedro, California to Clarance “Clancy” and Neilya Neighbors. She died following an unexpected short illness while traveling in Kenya on July 4, 2019. She lived a very full and adventurous life. She married Rober Deal in October of 1976 and they traveled extensively for an organization called Camps Farthest Out, for over 15 years. One such trip found them in India, and they were fortunate to meet with Mother Theresa. Barbara had a love for God, people, music and gardening. She started Literary Associates and worked for many years acting as an agent to assist authors in getting their manuscripts published. She also worked as a psychologist and a teacher, having obtained a BA in Philosophy and Religion from California Western University, as well as a Ph.D. in Psychology and Religion. During her studies, she was mentored by Viktor Frankl, Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. Barbara was a faithful swimmer, and could frequently be seen exercising at the local swimming pool. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Deal, and her parents Neilya and Clarance Neighbors. She was a longtime resident of Del Norte County. She is survived by her cousin Sandy Swaney Red), Red & Sandy’s daughters Jennifer and Heather and their families, and step daughters Sally Waaramaki and Susan Phillips. She also leaves behind many other cousins as well as close friends who were family to her. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Crescent City Seventh-day Adventists Church, 1770 Northcrest Drive.
