Edward (Ed) Anderson, 78, passed away peacefully at home with family on Dec. 6, 2021 in Crescent City, CA.
Ed was born in North Bend, Oregon and moved to Lake Tahkenitch outside Gardiner, Oregon where he attended grade school. He met his wife-to-be, Cheryl, in high school in Reedsport, Oregon, and after graduation, they attended Oregon College of Education together (now Western Oregon University) in Monmouth. Both received Masters in Education degrees. They married in 1965 and moved to Crescent City to begin their teaching careers.
Ed taught history at Crescent Elk Middle School for 39 years, and also coached High School football in the 1970’s, as well as junior high basketball later in his career. He also taught several elective classes over the years, including backpacking & survival, boating safety, career education, as well as a brief stint at College of the Redwoods. He developed the program and field trip to the Modoc Lava Beds. Ed always enjoyed encountering his former students and learning about their lives and accomplishments. He never met a stranger as Ed could talk to anybody, and would always stop to help anyone in need.
Ed enjoyed hunting, diving, camping, and fishing with both of his sons, and travelling with his wife. Ed was a competition free diver in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s up and down the California coastline. Ed and Cheryl were members of the Foursquare Church in Crescent City.
Ed fathered two sons, Scott and Kris Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Martha Anderson, and his son, Scott. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, his brother Don Anderson (Leslie), and his son Kris and daughter-in-law Melialani, his daughter-in-law Aimee Anderson, and grandchildren Faith and Isaiah Anderson, as well as nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Crescent City Foursquare Church on Saturday, January 15, at 1:00. The family thanks you for your many prayers, love, and support.
