Michael Graham Colton

Michael Graham Colton

Michael Graham Colton was born June 30th, 1950 in Puyallup, Washington, and passed June 26th, 2019 in Medford, Oregon, after a long, courageous 13 year fight.

Michael was the youngest of three children born to Keith and Martha Colton. In 1964, Mike and his family moved to Crescent City, and purchased Pacific Motor Hotel. Just one week before the 1964 tsunami. Mike attended Crescent Elk and went on to Del Norte High School, graduating in 1968, earning top athletic honors including the Case-McGilvery award. He was an all-star athlete, playing basketball, baseball and football.

Mike went on to study at College of The Redwoods. There, he was in a motorcycle accident that severely injured his hand. This accident hurt his future chances of playing major league baseball. Mike also went to Shasta College then relocated to Arizona to play AAA baseball. After realizing the effects of his injury and the devastating outcome of his future baseball career, he moved back to Crescent City. He then helped his parents manage Pacific Motor Hotel & Bottle Shop. He married Denise and they had two children together, Kristen and Matt.

Mike met his wife of 31 years, Terri, at Rowland’s Restaurant which was right next to his parent’s hotel. They married in 1987 on a redwood stump on their property that would later become part of the foundation that they would build their log house on. They had two girls together, Courtney and Caitlyn.

Mike loved fishing and loved doing his wood carvings. You could always find him tinkering in the shop with a cigar in his mouth, Budweiser in one hand and a bottle of Peppermint Schnapps in his back pocket. His kids and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always had a grin when he was around his family. Family vacations to Lost Creek and Shasta Lake were a yearly tradition and memories we will remember for a lifetime.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Keith and Martha Colton, his brother Skip Colton, his sister Kathleen Heberlein.

Mike is survived by his wife Terri, children Kristen (Jason), Matt (Robin), Courtney, Caitlyn (Richard), grandchildren, Sean, Makena, Matty, Karson, Natalie and Rogue. Nieces and Nephews, Scott, Kendra, Stacey, Joey, Travis and Justin.

There will be a Celebration of Life, July 13th, 2019 at the Elk’s Lodge in Crescent City, starting at 4pm.

We love you so much, Dad. We’ll hold you in our hearts, until we can hold you in heaven.
