Presley Scott “Scotty” Tryon was 88 years old when he died October 6, 2020. Born in Crescent City, November 19, 1931, he grew up helping his parents on the family beef and dairy ranch in Fort Dick.
During WWII, he worked for his parents’ hardware store assembling John Deere tractors and implements. His early employment included working for his older brother, Marlin, in the logging industry, before becoming a self-employed farmer, rancher, and dairyman. Scotty started the Parkside Dairy Creamery with a group of local dairymen. He served as secretary for the organization for several years. He later worked at Reservation Ranch for 25 years as a farm foreman. Most recently, Scotty was employed by Tidewater Construction as a heavy equipment operator.
Scotty enjoyed shooting trap and made frequent trips to Vale, Oregon, to hunt pheasant, duck, and deer.
He was a past member of Brookings Elks, Del Norte Rod, Gun Club, and currently, Del Norte County Farm Bureau and the Early Days’ Gas Engine & Tractor Club. Scotty served the Fort Dick Fire Department for 60 plus years as a Volunteer Fireman and Board Member.
Scotty is preceded in death by his parents Celia W Tryon and Presley Dennis Tryon, brother Marlin Tryon, and wife of 48 years, Ceceillia Mello Tryon. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Tryon and Rose Tryon VanCott (Mike). His current wife, Lynda Ford Tryon, and Lynda’s children Cindy Goodman, Patricia Hulme, Debra Moore, and Ron Savage.
Viewing will be Thursday, October 15th, 2020 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel, 408 G Street, Crescent City, CA.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Friday, October 16th, 2020 at 1:00 pm at St Joseph Catholic Church, Crescent City, CA. Interment to follow at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crescent City, CA.
