Del Norte cross-country kicks off new season in Fortuna

The Del Norte High School’s cross-country team’s first meet of the season was Sept. 18 in Fortuna. West Wood High School of McKinleyville placed first on the 3-mile-long course with a time of 16 minutes, 14 seconds.

Del Norte has 15 boys on the team, with no girls running this year. For five out of the seven who ran on Wednesday, this was their first meet, said coach Scott Lindsay.

Aaron Martinez ranked highest for the Warriors, with a time of 19 minutes, 30 seconds.

“Overall, the kids ran well for their first meet,” said Lindsay. “We’re all looking forward to future meets and working hard to establish new personal bests.”
